Geological Survey, while Ryan Carson, who majored in public policy, will attend law school at Georgetown University. Through the scholars program, the Boettcher Foundation has had an extensive and longstanding impact at DU — and beyond. The University will welcome 13 new Boettcher Scholars to campus this fall. They are involved in all aspects of university life, often participating in the Pioneer Leadership Program , and other LLCs and organizations on campus.
Many join us as already accomplished Boettcher Scholars. Most students also choose to live on the Honors floor. Upon successfully completing the program, our students graduate with University Honors. The scholarship covers virtually all expenses, including tuition, books and a living stipend for students who demonstrate the potential to make significant contributions to Colorado and choose to further their education in their home state.
The Boettcher Foundation awards 40 scholarships each year. Back to Article Listing. In a lab at the University of Denver, Schuyler van Engelenburg peers inside a sterile hood. An assistant professor in the Department of Biological Sciences , van Engelenburg is at work in his tissue cell facility, a closet-sized space that contains an incubator for culturing cells and a hood for manipulating them.
The facility is central to his research goal: to help devise a new, safer method for delivering corrective genes to children suffering from genetic blood disorders. In June , van Engelenburg was awarded a Webb-Waring Biomedical Research Award from the Boettcher Foundation, whose grant program supports early-career investigators in Colorado whose research directly impacts human health.
The award will support research that potentially could help children with Severe Combined Immunodeficiency Syndrome SCID , a rare, inherited disorder of the immune system caused by defects in white blood cells.
