So a few weeks ago more more like end of Jan I was sitting in the car listening to the radio and battery dies I have a similar door rattle near the door lock area on the driver's side. It sounds like metal touching metal.
I took the door panel off and found nothing loose or unusual. The rattle is driving me crazy. I have a passat and i want to remove the driver door panel. Well I did the search found what I need to do it, but every search result says to pry off the window controls. I was tugging and pulling all this morning and never could get it off.
So I've been having a problem getting in and out of my drivers side door. It got really cold and snowy here and one day I went to close my door and it wouldn't stay latched. Figured maybe something froze and it just stuck but once I finally got it to close I couldn't get it to open again even once the weather stabilized. Finally one day it just opened and has been fine ever since but now the door won't lock and the light on the bottom of the door stays on.
I had this problem once before and it turned out to be a loose solder joint that I fixed. My guess is I should just buy a new locking mechanism for that door. Is there something that can cause all the doors be somewhat finicky? All the doors seem to not lock on occasion or open when it appears to be unlocked.
Last thing, I tried to take out that bulb so I wouldn't kill the battery but I accidentally touched the two leeds and the fuse is fine but I think I fried a relay because my dome light no longer works and I can't get the sunroof to close. Looked it up and found something about an accessory relay.
I have earlier had problems with my driver's outside door handle which now and then doesn't open the door for a week or two, but then suddenly starts to work as normal again for long periods.
Yesterday one of my children had grabbed the outside door handle while I was operating the remote to unlock the car. After that the outside door handle doesn't work any more. I find it unbelieveable that VW designs a system which doesn't gracefully handle a grabbed handle while operating the central lock. Anyhow, I took off the outer bottom window seal of the door and immediately saw the brown wire coming from the lock assembly. It is supposed to be straight, but this was loose.
Look at this image wire mirrored from the window : [URL] Most internet tips tells me to slam the door a number of times until the wire returns to its position and all is well - probably until the next time the same thing happens I have two scenarios, my driver's door handle which doesn't work now and then, and the rear side door which immediately stopped working after the handle was pulled while I unlocked the car.

UPDATE The rear nearside door now consistantly won't open, making replacing the door lock actuator the part that is currently believed to be at fault somewhat harder to replace.

I was lucky that the lock popped up and has worked since. Apparently they can sometimes get stuck. Add a comment. Active Oldest Votes. There is a good chance that the door lock actuator has gone bad and needs to be replaced. Improve this answer. Zaid Zaid Thank you for your answer, I think that you are right so I have just ordered this replacement part. PROBLEM As you can see in the photo, on the lock actuator replacement part for my car door there is a plastic part left and a metal part right.
Once you have got the panel off the door, the door should look something like this: At this point I recommend that you disconnect everything you can.
Just lever the lock up from underneath, as you can see in the photo below. I've learned to leave with it, but have never noticed a whistle because of the doors? I have noticed a slight whistle as air moves over and through the side view mirrors. Nothing major, though. Not sure if the passat adjusts the same, but I had the same issue on my '04 Jetta.
I adjusted the 'catch' part so the doors close a little farther. It takes a tripple square bit. I know where you're coming from. Over the years I've gotten used to some pretty annoying or dangerous things. But this is definitely door-related. I can get the whistling to stop if I pull the door in. I'm not used to it yet so if the fix isn't heinous, I'd like to get it corrected - before I get used to it.

This reduces the chances of road rash or paint chipping against an oblique door edge because the edge is 'hidden' behind the forward panel. The road rash debris strikes that forward surface at a much lower angle of incidence and is less likely to chip than having that debris hit more squarely on the leading edge of the next panel.
The mirrors as a source of noise at high speeds is common for these cars. As far as mirrors go, I kind of ruled that out because the noise is always on the right no matter the outside conditions and it changes when I pull the door. The mm is a SWAG. I can say that the projection is more pronounced on the noisy door that its opposite which stays quiet.
Can anyone say how the adjustment is achieved? Which is moved, the latch post on the chassis or the latch mechanism in the door?
I thought he was referring to the small metal catch that is attached to the pillar. Am I wrong? Just loosening up the post and blindly knocking it around could cause more trouble that it solves. Just loosen it, slide it in a couple mm and tighten it back down. If it's not far enough, move it a little farther. There isn't a whole lot af adjustment, but it should be enough to get the doors flush. Route 66 Veteran Member.
I had a wind noise on the drivers side mirror that would not go away. I took it to LaMettrys Auto Body. I find that if I slightly pivot inward my driver's side mirror housing that the wind noise goes down significantly. I don't have to fold it in a whole lot, just enough that it stays out of the detent. I still have the range of adjustment to power adjust the glass for a full view. My 01 Passat driver's side door has a similar issue. At the top of the door, the front door is OUT relative to the body.
At the bottom of this door, it is IN relative to the body. I had adjusted the door striker in a year or two ago to reduce the amount that the top of the door hung out. The result is now the leading edge of the bottom of my rear door has many rock-damage chips in it : With hindsight, I should have left the door out since it hadn't been leaking - it just looked bad. One of the hinges is connected from inside the interior of the car and requires the removal of the instrument panel!!!!
I thought I could get at the door hinges by removing the front fender so I started doing that. Now I see the Bentley has some interesting news for me. I cannot figure how they could have made this more difficult.
Anyway the moral of the story is Joined Mar 16, Location Newtownards, N. Is the leading edge of this front door inline with the fender?
