Nice work Rick, well done.

Install Recovery Console to boot menu It's a sticky thread too. I'm going to try and make a floppy linux distro that can read ntfs and burn cds When installiing a new mobo into a computer that already has windows installed will always be problem matic.

XP does a better job that the other OS's but it is still hit and miss. Install the OS disc and boot from it than run through as if you are doing an install. But when you get to the last window before formating your drive and starting over windows will offer you a chance to repair.

Do this it will look like its installing a new OS but when done, if it works you will be able to start windows. Even if it works You will probly have to reinstall some of your hardware and drivers. So have them ready.

But there is always the chance that it won't even boot. If not booting you will have to do a new install. When I asked if a 10 year old operating system such as Windows 98 was still an option as a desktop operating system for business today, many TechRepublic members argued quite rightly that although Windows 98 wasn't a viable choice, Windows Professional certainly could be.

Others added that Windows Pro was their favorite version of Windows. Jason Hiner and I were discussing this exact point yesterday and came to a similar conclusion- Windows Professional might have been the best desktop operating system that Microsoft produced, up until XP SP2 shipped. Any version of Windows before 3. Windows 3. Windows 9x was built on an architectural house of cards as the final version, Windows ME, proved beyond a doubt.

That leaves Windows XP and Vista. There's no reason really to pile on where Vista is concerned. Although on new hardware Vista's a half-decent operating system, everyone knows how it has turned out. Thanks for responding. He never followed through. Not like the old days where they sent you a cd to fix things. I don't like that he went against his word. I guess once they have your money, one loses all power. I also hired a certified microsoft tech to do the installation.

I could have installed all the old stuff myself, but I wanted a clean fresh start. There have been some errors happening, but nothing to shut it down. I like your car comparison. I almost bought the Sony Vaio instead of the Dell. Browse Community.
