Please let me know your feedback on this. This will affect your ability to perform a quick failover. It is still recommended to move them outside of the cluster. If the Windows Server cluster relies on VM-1 as it's domain controller, then, this solution will not work.
If you reboot one of your cluster nodes, it will failover the cluster resources to one of the available nodes. In order to do that, it has to read both the directory services entry and DNS. If the domain controller and DNS resides as a virtual machine in the node that just got rebooted, it will take some time for them to be moved to the available node and will cause the failover to fail. Make sure that your Windows Server cluster does not depend on anything inside it.
Move the domain controllers outside of the cluster if the cluster depends on them. Each of the nodes in the cluster have a virtual machine. The problem is, when 1 node goes down, the cluster fails, not able to switch the traffic to the other node. I suspected the DNS and Domain controller issues. I have been testing by disabling the network adapter to observe the fail-over but is still failing. What I have observed also is that, when the nodes does not have internet, they can not be reached, even with ping.
I have an application running on which will be accessing the database. I want when the node1 is not available, Node2 takes over automatically. Are your domain controllers mission critical?
Are you using it for something else other than the SQL Server cluster? If they are mission critical, then, they should be in a separate environment that is also designed with high availability in mind. Don't fall for the trap of implementing failover clustering just because you can. As I've previously mentioned, understand and define your availability objectives. Maybe database mirroring or log shipping would be enough to address your requirement. To achieve redandancy on the domain controller side, can I create 1 VM on each node to serve as domain controllers?
I will appreciate if you can share with me a guide to implement the VMs and also things I have to take note of. Unfortunately, you can't install SQL Server on a domain controller. If you only need a domain controller because of the cluster, you can provision a virtual machine that would run on a cheap hardware to host your domain controller plus your DNS server.
If you use your domain controller for production and you have many users, computers and services authenticating to the domain controller, then, you need to make it highly available.

But I can able to bring the shared disk to online in the Node 1 , the thing is i cant able to do the same in Node 2.
Actually what i am facing is as per your tutorial of presenting shared disk to cluster nodes , i can't able to complete the step 7. That is , I cant able to change the inactive status of the shared disk to connected in the Node 2.
What error message are you getting when you bring the disks online on the other node? I suspect that the disks are not configured to be shared. Check with your storage engineers on how to configure this. Make sure that OpenFiler supports it and is configured properly. I can able to present the disk and bring them to online in the Node1 but when i try the same in the Node 2 , I cant able to accomplish it. What's your infrastructure like? The computer servername. Please ensure that this server is running. Also, ensure that this server's firewall,if enabled, allows Remote procedure call request. I am going to be running just Active Passive. From what you are saying. If the disk quorum failed as long as both the Active and Passive nodes are still running. Cluster will run but no failover ability. Therefore, time to fix the quorum disk. Once thats fixed, failover ability will return.
In this quorum model, a cluster remains active until half of the nodes and its witness disk is available. Here's a challenge, run this test on a virtual environment having the cluster disks on a shared storage, probably an iSCSI disk. While you're at it, connect to SQL Server and see if you can connect properly. That will provethe point.
Is it true that, if the disk quorum failed. SQL Server will continue running, but no failover ability until disk quorum is fixed. Or will SQL Server stop running altogether until quorum is fixed? Verifying that there are no duplicate IP addresses between any pair of nodes.

However, your licensing model will definitely change as you now have to license both instances. If you intend to run both instances on just one of the nodes, you only need a license for one box times the number of CPU if you're going for the CPU license.

It is giving the below error. Cluster network name resource 'xyz' failed to create its associated computer object in domain 'abc. The text for the associated error code is: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. By default all computer objects are created in the 'Computers' container; consult the domain administrator if this location has been changed. The cluster service is running under Local System account which has been given permission to create objects in AD.
We have tried by pre-creating a computer object with the MSDTC Network Name in disabled state and giving cluster identity full control on it. With the introduction of geographically dispersed clusters in Windows Server , you can now have IP addresses that reside in different subnets across routed networks, eliminating the need to create a VLAN.
Do we need to have same subnet or everywhere the limitation of same subnet and VLAN requirements are removed??. Your SQL Server IP could be in the same subnet as your Windows or on a different subnet as long as they get routed correctly to enable it to communicate with the rest of the network.

Installing SSRS requires a totally different mindset as you are working on a web application on an NLB and not a cluster so its not like having to install it on the cluster nodes separately. I'll work on that article in no time. This meant I spent sometime with the trial and error approach, installing and reinstalling.
