Smartware wd update

I tried downloading from the site. All ends in the same error message. What now? Is it a Windows, Apple or what? When you download SmartWare where do you save it? The Smartware is on my desktop PC which is running Windows I have a very similar problem. Specifically yesterday WD Smartware tried starting and crashed. WD Smart been working fine for many months.

Yesterday I called support and was told to re-install WD Smartware. Relevant to this thread is on installing I did get a popup error about some configuration. As an IT Officer for Oxford University, I am finding it difficult to find out exactly what the status is of this drive. Everyone is clearly not happy with the onboard software. Does this mean that you can completely disable the WD smartware on the drive itself?
